Cypriot oregano is distinguished by an essential oil naturally rich in carvacrol- a bioactive compound that has attracted significant scientific interest.
Research has explored the antimicrobial, antioxidant and other biological properties of oregano essential oil and carvacrol, connecting one of Cyprus’ remarkable botanicals with modern scientific research.
A Remarkable Observation
Our interest in Cypriot oregano was reinforced by a striking laboratory observation. During an exploratory laboratory demonstration in Cyprus, oregano was tested in the presence of bacterial cultures. The observed inhibition of bacterial growth was remarkable and became a powerful starting point for our curiosity about the botanical and its potential.
That observation did not replace formal scientific research — it inspired us to look deeper into it. Today, the properties of oregano essential oil and its key constituent, carvacrol, continue to be investigated extensively in scientific literature.
